The Challenges and Delights of Change

In my eighty-one years on this earth, I have witnessed history unfold from what once felt like a comfortable distance—reading about military conflicts, watching televised coverage of regime changes, and observing international upheavals that seemed safely contained within the borders of other nations.
Today, however, that distance has collapsed. The very systems that once established America as democracy’s standard-bearer are undergoing a profound transformation before our eyes.

Relationships (A.L.R.)

A Comical, Poignant Deep-Dive into the Architecture of the Soul.
Most people can’t fix a leaky faucet, let alone a multi-billion-dollar corporation. Allan L. Redmond (A.L.R.) can do the latter in his sleep. But as he stands on his 42nd-floor balcony at the stroke of midnight, he realizes his own life has the structural integrity of a “submarine with screen windows.”

Relationships: A.L.R. is a “Smart-Com” that bridges the gap between cynical corporate reality and intuitive spiritual healing. It follows Allan—a man who views his life as a “fart in a gale of wind”—as he navigates the wreckage of a disastrous divorce and an existential career crisis. His journey intersects with Alicia L. Running Bear (A.L.R.), an intuitive soul/trauma therapist who challenges his “Architect” brain to stop optimizing and start feeling.

Through a narrative roadmap of 26 chapters, readers follow Allan as he:

  • Identifies the “Emotional Vampires” and “Functional Cannibals” draining his vital energy.
  • Learns the “Oxygen Mask Rule” of self-preservation.
  • Navigates the “Yellow Snow” of red flags in modern dating.
  • Discovers the “Magic” in the spaces between the notes of a duplicitous life.

This is not just a story about a breakup; it is a guidebook for anyone who has ever felt “drawn and quartered” by life’s expectations. It offers a clear, hard-won, and occasionally humorous, path to the only destination that matters: a life where you finally feel Appreciated, Loved, and Respected.

Human Addiction to Destruction: Is Species Elimination Inevitable?

This work is a fictional tale written in 2073. It would not have been possible without the countless individuals who shared their memories, insights, and wisdom during the darkest and most transformative period in human history. Particular gratitude goes to the community elders who maintained oral traditions through the collapse, the children who reminded us that the future remained open to possibility, and the practical visionaries who demonstrated that sustainable, equitable communities were not utopian fantasies but achievable realities.
Special recognition goes to the archivists and librarians who risked their lives to preserve books, documents, and digital records during the chaos of collapse, making it possible to reconstruct the intellectual and cultural heritage that informs this analysis. Their dedication to preserving human knowledge represents one of the most heroic acts of our time.
The analysis presented here has been strengthened by conversations and collaborations with survivors from across the bioregional network who shared their experiences and insights generously despite their own losses and ongoing struggles. Their stories provide the heart of this work, while their wisdom provides whatever hope it contains for the future.
Finally, this work is dedicated to those who died during the collapse not from lack of resources or knowledge, but from our collective inability to overcome the systems and consciousness that made destruction seem inevitable. Their sacrifice was not meaningless if we learn from it and choose differently going forward.

Testimonials

I felt so ‘drawn and quartered’ by my own life expectations before reading Art’s book. Allan’s journey gave me permission to breathe again. It is the perfect blend of a great story and a practical survival guide.

Sarah L

Registered Nurse

As someone with an ‘Architect’ brain myself, this book felt like it was written directly for me. It forced me to stop trying to ‘optimize’ my relationships and actually start feeling them. Truly brilliant.

Greg S

Financial Analyst

I am recommending Art’s self-help book to all my clients! It brilliantly bridges the gap between the hyper-analytical brain and spiritual healing. The ‘Yellow Snow’ chapter on dating red flags is worth the price of the book alone.

Priya M

Life Coach

I read Arthur Beane’s novel “Relationships (A.L.R.)” and found it to be a surprisingly good read. The main character, Allan Redmond is likeable, vulnerable, sometimes funny, but always relatable as he upends his life to find meaning and happiness while uncovering the basic concepts of good relationships. The use of repeated metaphors to illustrate each lesson learned at first seemed quirky; but as I kept reading, I realized the important comic relief they added to the story as well as the vivid imagery to help make sense of all that Allan discovers. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning how appreciation, love, and respect matter in both work and personal relationships.

The line about having the structural integrity of a ‘submarine with screen windows’ had me hooked. Beane’s book perfectly captures the messiness of navigating life after a divorce while keeping you laughing through the heavy parts.

David K

Hardware Store Owner

Dr. Beane’s most recent work reads like a novel and is engaging from the onset. His understanding of the “human condition” is heartfelt and poignant. Metaphorically the work is humorous and thought-provoking. To read this story is to know Arthur Beane.

Deb O

Retired Middle School Principal

I usually hate cheesy relationship books, but the dynamic between Allan and Alicia is pure gold. Art’s “smart-com” novel reads like a brilliant screenplay but leaves you with actual, practical tools to spot the ‘Emotional Vampires’ in your life.

Elena R

Graphic Designer

As I read Art Beane’s A.L.R. book I could relate to his characters’ interactions. It portrayed “real life” instances in an easy-to-read style. Throughout the book, the theme of “to thine own self be true” was evident supporting the idea that we DO know what’s best for us at our core—if only we take time for “inner listening.

Holistic Health Practitioner

Arthur Beane’s novel Relationships (A.L.R.) – Feeling Appreciated, Loved and Respected is a gripping, fast paced tale of one man’s dark night of the soul in corporate America. Our protagonist, at the height of success realizes he’s succeeded on the corporate ladder but betrayed himself in the process. The tension and suspense increases as he realizes the high cost of his high-rise existence is the chilling crevice in the pit of his gut. Beware. Though this is fiction, it is not just about our protagonist. It’s about Americans facing the bone crushing pressure of corporate existence.

Self-help books can be dry and a little hard to push through. ALR is like a self-help roadmap wrapped in a story of one man’s journey to greater self awareness. It adds a welcome human element that compels the reader to keep turning the pages.

Rob C

Retired Director of Marketing Technology

I bought Art Beane’s book because I felt lost and tormented exactly like Allan—successful at work but failing at life. The humor is laugh-out-loud funny, but the emotional insights hit me right in the chest. The ‘Oxygen Mask Rule’ alone changed how I approach my daily stress.
